5 sustainable stays in Taghazout

Updated: Oct 17

While waves litter Morocco’s Atlantic coast, the most famous (and wave-rich) stretch is arguably around the village of Taghazout. Located near the beach resort city of Agadir, it has rapidly earned a reputation as the place to escape on a surf vacation, whether you’re a seasoned shredder or looking to take your first steps.

In the 1960s, Taghazout attracted waves of hippies (Jimmy Hendrix is said to have visited) and this spirit of connecting to the environment and preserving the natural world persists to this day. While there’s no denying that the area has seen large-scale development in recent years, many of Taghazout’s hotels, guesthouses and hostels are taking strides in the direction of sustainability to lessen their impact on the environment.

Read on to discover 5 eco-friendly accommodations in Taghazout (and nearby Tamraght) that offer eco-conscious surfers a sustainable stay while riding some of Morocco's best waves
